HFStival: I Defy You To Construct A More Random Lineup

Hey, so HFStival is back again. (Note: not everyone is thrilled about this.) For this year’s festival — on Saturday, September 17th at Merriweather Post Pavilion — the online radio station/brand/stalwart preservationists of mid-’90s mainstream, radio-friendly alternative rock (I’ll never forget you, Art Alexakis) eschewed last year’s strategy of shamelessly appealing to people who lost their virginity to Third Eye Blind and decided to…well, I’m not really sure what they were going for. But attendees who pony up $35 to $50 won’t be hard-pressed for diversity.

HFStival Lineup Feels Like a Time Warp

Pictured above is my T-shirt from the 1997 HFStival. That was back when 99.1 still ruled the D.C. alt-rock airwaves, and the festival was the be-all-end-all musical event of the year. Going was a right of passage for which I had to beg my parents’ permission for years.
