DGS Director: New Shelter Plan Pushes D.C. General Closure To 2019, May Be Shut Down In Stages
The Bowser administration is evaluating the feasibility of closing the shelter down in parts.
A revised plan would buy the property for new shelters in Wards 1 and 4, and move the proposed sites in Ward 3, 5, and 6 to city-owned land.
“it features the earmarks of an agency intent on saying ‘no’ without any intention of serious consideration,” the Ward 3 councilmember said.
Mary Cheh’s letter comes after weeks of opponents complaining about the cost of the plan and the sites chosen.
