D.C. Fourth In Income Inequality
That’s an average income of over $530,000 for the richest D.C. residents and just under $9,900 for the poorest.
The Washington area continues to be home to most of the list of the United States’ 10 richest counties, but the gap between the region’s highest and lowest earners continues to expand, according new Census data.

D.C. Near Top in Income Inequality
Over the course of the four months that they remained at McPherson Square, Occupy D.C. protesters complained of growing income inequality throughout the U.S. Little did they know that they were camping out in one of the most unequal places in the country.
According to data published by the Census Bureau, D.C. is the national leader in the percentage of households that earn over $200,000 a year. The rest of the metropolitan area is not doing too shabby either: Maryland and Virginia place fourth and seventh, respectively.
