The Kennedy Center’s inaugural “Hip Hop &…” festival will celebrate the intersections between hip-hop and jazz.

The DC Jazz Festival is spreading the jazz gospel around the city as much as possible, with shows planned at various venues in addition to the main event at The Wharf.

There’s bhangra brass to celebrate Holi, Washington Women in Jazz is back, and a dynamite singer puts on a tribute to Chaka Khan at jazz and international shows around D.C. this month.

The 25th anniversary of one of the region’s top jazz orchestras and an all-female Colombian group playing ancestral music are among the jazz and global music events around town this month.

Our monthly jazz and international picks include some holiday fare — including some New Year’s Eve options — but plenty of other acts doing their regular thing, whether it’s avant-garde piano or classic vocals.

District of Raga is programming at Wolf Trap, Bobby Felder brings a jazz orchestra to Westminster Presbyterian, and there are plenty of other jazz shows happening around town this month.

September brings two more jazz festivals after the DC Jazz Fest, a reunion of veteran band Stickman, and a celebration of Salvadoran and Indian music to venues around D.C.

DC Jazz Festival is back in closer to pre-pandemic form this year, with shows to be held around the city over the course of five days. Organizers hope to eventually building back up to the 10-day event of years past.

This weekend, celebrate the (slightly) cooler weather with a Black-owned beer festival, a women-focused bike ride, and a trivia/karaoke competition.
