Morning Roundup: Those Crazy Teens Edition

What’s with teens these days? Leave it to WJLA to do some undercover reporting to find out. In a story posted on the website, the station’s probing news team embedded itself with teens in Maryland to find out exactly what makes them tick, what secrets they posses, and what they do on their free time. Not to say that the results are somewhat alarmist, but, oh hell, that’s exactly what they are. Read for yourself:…

WMATA on Wednesday

A mid-week transit update, bringing us news on Virginia’s new governor and the possible extension of the Yellow Line. Kaine Announces Support for Wider I-66 Wow. You’d think the guy would take a day off to recover from what we would hope was a late night celebrating, but Virginia Governor-elect Tim Kaine is already up and addressing one of the issues that most preoccupied the state’s voters over the course of the campaign — transportation….

Morning Roundup: New Governor Edition

Good morning, Washington. Today’s weather is likely to match Jerry Kilgore’s mood: lousy. That’s right, the results are in, and Virginia’s new governor is Democrat Tim Kaine. Kaine beat Kilgore by six percentage points in the culmination of a brutally negative race that turned dirty, then got even dirtier. Frankly, we’re glad it’s over. The Post has complete election results for Virginia here; Maryland’s results are here. Group Surveils Day Laborers: The situation surrounding illegal…

The Endorsements Have Been Tallied…

If area newspapers decided Virginia’s upcoming gubernatorial race, Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore would take the cake 2-1. Now, if one placed additional weight on a paper’s circulation, Democratic candidate Tim Kaine would have enough votes to rule unchallenged for the next 30 years. Either way, newspapers don’t decide elections, but they do offer up editorial endorsements. And endorsed they have! With Virginia voters heading to the polls on November 8 in an election that has…

Does I-66 Need to be Widened?

It may not have been scenic, but it was intended to make a point. As Jerry Kilgore, Virginia’s Republican gubernatorial candidate, stood above I-66, he sold a plan he hopes will sway enough Northern Virginia voters to pull in his favor come the November 8 election — the addition of two lanes to I-66 from the Beltway into the District. With Democratic candidate Tim Kaine leading Kilgore in both Northern Virginia and the state at…

Morning Roundup: Questioning Cops Edition

Is there anything that particularly frustrates you about the District’s police force? If so, today WTOP is giving you the chance to throw a hardball at D.C. police chief Charles Ramsey, who will be fielding questions and complaints online and over the phone starting at 10 a.m. DCist only wishes the city’s police force were wracked with corruption and instances of police brutality, because in all honesty, clean cops don’t exactly make for gripping…

Morning Roundup: Intentional Integrity Edition

Last Monday, the Post profiled ousted American University president Benjamin Ladner. Gina Maria Schulz, who served as “Personal Assistant to the First Lady” — yes, Ladner’s wife — described the man as such: “He was the most ethical man I ever met.” Ladner himself has this to say: “I do feel I’ve done what I’ve done with intentional integrity.” How the Post’s reporters didn’t break out in hysterics is beyond us, given the emerging news…

Nader Denied

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Ralph Nader was likely going to be on the Virginia presidential ballot, after Attorney General Jerry Kilgore ordered that Nader’s petitions be accepted. In a move sure to warm the cockles of a Kerry-lover’s heart, Nader was today denied a spot on the ballot by the State Board of Elections, the Post reports.Nader fell short of getting the required 10,000 certified signatures on his qualifying petitions,…
