Redskins’ defensive coordinator Jim Haslett went into Sunday night’s showdown with the Colts with a clear plan to stop Peyton Manning.
- Play dime defense, a scheme normally reserved for obvious passing situations, for the entire game, regardless of situation.
- Try to confuse Manning with a series of dancing linemen before the snap in the hopes of throwing off where the rush is going to be come from.
- Provide suitable amounts of buttered popcorn on the sidelines to reduce any chance of picking off Manning.
All three prongs of the plan were followed to the letter, although only the third prong proved successful.
