Click Click: Malkmus / Vanderslice @ 9:30 Club
Fresh off of deflating the latest round of Pavement reunion rumors, Stephen Malkmus, aka “the slacker prince of 1990s indie rock”, hit the road touring behind his latest release Real Emotional Trash. The tour pulled into D.C Friday night with opener and all-around good guy John Vanderslice serving as the opener. This was the first time I’d seen Mr. Malkmus since the tour behind Pavement’s last album, Terror Twilight, which was, admittedly, many moons ago….

John Vanderslice at the R’n’R Hotel
The man with the coolest name in contemporary rock music drew the largest crowd we’ve ever seen at the Rock and Roll Hotel last night. Keep in mind that it was a Wednesday. John Vanderslice also completely demolished the “fourth wall” between the audience and the stage, handing out Mrs. Field’s cookies, inviting a gaggle of fans to the stage for a sing-along of “me and my 424,” and descending from the stage to play…

Photo of the Day: May 5, 2006
Today’s photo from the National Gallery of Art was taken by Flickr user photogene. And get this, it was taken on something called “film” via a Nikon F80. John Vanderslice spoke about “film” when I talked to him last week, I’ll have to look it up on Wikipedia or something. Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone….

DCist Interview: John Vanderslice
Not only is John Vanderslice a locally raised jack-of-all-trades, he’s an all around nice guy to boot. It was evident to me on Friday, when we spoke and did the following interview, but JV proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt on Saturday night right before his set at Iota. I arrived a bit after 10 p.m. and the doorman told me the show was sold out. “No problem, ” I said. “I’m on…

Weekly Music Agenda
Monday: >> Over at Black Cat there’s a Pitchfork friendly line up of mid-tempo, indie folk, with John Vanderslice, Portastatic, and Brandon Butler. There’s sure to be some quality balladeering, but you’ll probably want to hit the 14th Street Caribou for some caffeine beforehand. $10. >> As for us, DCist is going to see The Sentiment at DC9. They’re loud, they’re fun, and they let you jump on stage. On a Monday, this is what…
