Wizards Down Toronto, Honor “The Pearl”

Ticket holders for Saturday’s Wizards v. Raptors match up probably made their purchases with visions of Gilbert Arenas and Chris Bosh dancing in their head. With both stars injured for the game, instead it turned into the Roger Mason Jr. v. Jason Kapono show. It turns out this wasn’t a bad thing at all. After not playing at all in Thursday’s loss in Philadelphia, Mason Jr. came off the bench to score 15 big…

Houston Downs New England at RFK for 2nd MLS Cup

The Houston Dynamo won a second consecutive MLS Cup on Sunday at RFK, besting the New England Revolution in a come-from behind 2-1 victory. The Revolution lived up to their tag as the league’s nearly men, losing yet again in the championship match. This loss had to be especially painful for the Revs as they opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Veteran playmaker Steve Ralston found space on the right and crossing perfectly…

Decemberists Cancel, Locals Step In

Everybody’s favorite Portland-based literary music makers, The Decemberists, have had to cancel their Long And Short Of It tour, just two dates in. One of the band members has been ill, and as it turns out, hadn’t gotten as well as they’d hoped in time to tour. That includes the expansive four-night residency they’d scheduled at the 9:30 Club for this weekend. If you’d already bought tickets, you can get a refund at your…

Update: Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart May Disappear

Today’s Washington Post Food Section reported Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart would be shuttering on November 20. The intended move and handover we reported on October 30 was not mentioned. Instead, proprietor John Rider told WaPo that he had not found any buyers. Did the deal fall through? DCist spoke to our favorite Burrito Cart guy this morning to find out the details. According to Rider, the last time he spoke with William Risbrook (the…

Click Click: The Police @ Verizon Center

The Police made their way back to the District last night, playing their first show in town in over 24 years. Their last D.C. show was on August 22, 1983, when they graced the stage at the Capital Center. The crowd at the Phone Booth welcomed Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland with a huge ovation when Summers strode on stage and began the riff for “Message In A Bottle.” Were you in attendance…

Morrissey @ DAR Constitution Hall

It’s been a few years since the Pope of Mope has graced the District with his presence—four three to be exact—and in the meantime, many of us have managed to see him play in other nearby locales. As a matter of fact, a few DCist staffers caught the Moz’s Halloween show in Baltimore, at the relatively intimate Ram’s Head Live—a date that was rescheduled due to Morrissey’s string of cancellations this past July. While…

Washington Wizards Season Preview

The recent Kobe for Gilbert trade rumors (shot down yesterday by Ernie Grunfeld — not that that means anything) should give you an indication that the Washington Wizards are at a crossroads season in regards to the franchise’s future. Gilbert Arenas has gone on record saying he will opt out of his contract at the end of the season and Antawn Jamison is in the final year of his deal. Something’s got to give…

Jimmy Eat World @ 9:30 Club

With two years since their last area shows and a new album to tour behind, Jimmy Eat World had nothing but good expectations to fulfill. Unfortunately, last night’s show to a capacity crowd was uneven at best and flat at worst, with new songs failing to capture the imagination and many of the old songs lacking energy. Kicking off their set with the anthemic “Big Casino,” the first single from their most recent effort,…

Changes Coming to Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart
