La Roux @ 9:30 Club
After British synthpop duo La Roux canceled and rescheduled their sold-out show at D.C.’s 9:30 Club not once, but twice, you would think Eleanor Jackson and Ben Langmaid would make it up to fans who waited nearly a year to see them perform. Months and months of anticipation at having their breath taken away by La Roux’s signature glittery disco-pop ended with the venue deflated like a balloon. The buzz surrounding the band last year was enough to sell out the show in a heartbeat — but the magic had long worn off by Wednesday’s performance. Even the now-stale smash hit “Bulletproof” wasn’t enough to save the late night show. That’s not to say La Roux won’t make fresh material that will capture hearts again, but the message Wednesday night was loud and clear: let’s move on.
