Homicide Watch D.C. will rise from its stasis. The two-year-old website that tracks every murder case in the District crossed its $40,000 fundraising threshold on Kickstarter last night, beating its goal with three days to spare.

Homicide Watch D.C. has eight days left in the Kickstarter its founders launched last month in hopes of keeping the site alive while they participate in a 10-month fellowship at Harvard.

With Homicide Watch D.C. facing a hiatus, the site’s founders have launched a Kickstarter campaign to keep their project afloat while they relocate to Harvard for a Nieman journalism fellowship.

Homicide Watch D.C., the two-person operation that dedicated itself to covering every one of the District’s murder cases—from crime scene to sentencing hearing—is going on hiatus, possibly forever.
