Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Protest over national vs. regional chains, the never-ending debate over the place of cars and bicycles in our metropolises, professional sports scandals, remembering a solemn day, and being issued a search warrant – it all happened across our sites this week! Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
All across the Ist-A-Verse (or at least the American parts thereof), writers and editors are in the midst of enjoying their three-day weekend. Ok, we know you still find the whole idea of a meetup a bit weird, but we promise you’ll be able to communicate in just plain english. No Klingon,…

Hecht’s and Macy’s Sitting in a Tree
Corporate mergers and buyouts seem to be changing the names of D.C.’s familiars in recent months. First Verizon (now Qwest?) moves to grab MCI, throwing the name of the MCI Center into flux, and now May Department Stores Co., owner of area stores Hecht’s and Filene’s, announces a merger with Federated Department Stores Inc. (Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s). Once consummated, Federated will operate more than 950 department stores, along with approximately 700 bridal and formalwear stores….
