The vigil and demonstration happened a day after shootings at three spas in Georgia that left eight people dead, including six Asian women.

A few dozen organizers gathered in freezing temperatures on Sunday for The March for Reparations after the event’s original date was pushed back due to the insurrection on January 6.

There’s a chalk-in and a vigil, and protestors will march in several locations on Saturday.

It is a 10-day trek that begins at Emancipation Park in Charlottesville on August 28 and ends in the nation’s capital on September 6.

More than 1,000 religious leaders are expected to attend the “One Thousand Ministers March for Justice” rally on Monday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and rally against President Donald Trump’s leadership in light of the deadly rally in Charlottesville.

The march follows a series of recent violent incidents in D.C. directed at transgender people.

There have been at least two violent attacks against trans women in D.C. in the past few weeks.

“To say that the march is political is really important. It’s a chance for scientists and people who appreciate science to realize that politics explicitly affects what scientists are able to research and how science affects policy.”
