District officials say that while results from this year’s statewide assessments are “encouraging,” students are still recovering from pandemic-era learning loss.

The governor can’t require public schools to reopen. But he said schools choose not to comply, “we will explore every legal avenue at our disposal.” 

The state joins Virginia in prioritizing the economic benefits of a later school start date.
