In Case You Forgot Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving…
We here at the DCist constantly extol the virtues of living in a city with abundant resources of all kind. Do you need to see an awesome show at a small venue? Check. Do you need to look at physical copies of the country’s most important documents? Check. Do you have a need to see Matthew Lesko now and again? Got it. Other than that whole “vote in Congress” thing, D.C. probably has what you…

Morning Roundup: Easy, Breezy Edition
Good morning, Washington. What a difference a day makes, right? Just yesterday we were complaining bitterly about the heat and about when administrative law Judge Roy Pearson would finally be brought before the panel that will decide his fate for a hearing. But both problems have been resolved, as if by magic, while we slumbered. The current temperature outside is 57 degrees in our nation’s capital, with an expected high of 66. And Judge…

DCist’s Separated at Birth
Browsing around the site a few days ago, we were struck by how much the photo of local informercial crazy guy Matthew Lesko resembled Ward 1 Council member and club shutter-downer Jim Graham — there’s the poofy silver hair, the 1950s glasses, the bowtie. It would only be better if Graham rode around in a question mark-covered Scion. But it got us thinking: who else in D.C. looks like somebody else? So after the jump…

Maryland’s Got Your Money
Matthew Lesko isn’t the only one shouting that the government has millions of dollars for area residents. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot may also have cash and treasure for you, though admittedly he doesn’t look as good in a question-mark suit. Today The Capital, Annapolis’s local paper, ran an 80-page list of over 75,000 current and former Maryland residents owed money or property by the state. The District also has a list of unclaimed property, though…

Morning Roundup: Pandas And Protests Edition
Good morning, Washington, and our apologies to the residents of Montgomery County — we hate to be the bearers of bad news. But it looks like speed cameras will be coming to your fair municipality. The general assembly has overridden Governor Ehrlich’s second veto, putting the wheels in motion for a statewide program. Montgomery County will be the lucky recipient of the first pilot cameras. Gallaudet Still A Mess: Protests; counter-protests; defiant non-resignations. And now…

Morning Roundup: Mixed Messages Edition
Good morning, Washington. We hope you’re as excited as we are to read about how we’re going to have lower heating bills this winter, due to predictions of a mild winter ahead. Hooray! We think we’ll put that extra money towards a nice vacation. But hey, errr, wait a minute. Does this mean we’re not going to get any full snow days again this year? Noooooo! Increase in Crime on Metro Slowing?: The Examiner reports…

Wanted: Government Heroes!
Matthew Lesko, he of the famous question mark suits and advocate of taking advantage of free government money has taken up the cause of the unsung government bureaucrat on his blog. Lesko has just announced a contest rewarding the hard work of government employee’s that goes mostly unnoticed. Lesko blogs: Good government only happens when the people working in it do their jobs, and do them well. I’ve been a witness to some amazing stories…

Lesko Blogs in His Defense
Late night infomercial annoyance and “famous for D.C.” resident Matthew Lesko has jumped feet first into the blogosphere. And yes, you have heard of this guy. Lesko is infamous for his snazzy question mark suits, his garishly painted car and for his “Get Free Money from the Government!” commercials that seem to air almost exclusively between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on local cable stations. Lesko Blog went live a few days ago, and like…
