In 2012, the median household income was $88,233, down slightly from $88,505 in 2011. The news was basically the same for the poverty rate, which was 8.4 percent in 2012 and 8.3 percent in 2011.
In more evidence that the Washington region is doing better than many of its city counterparts, a report on car affordability released last week found that middle-income residents of the DMV are the only ones in the country fully able to afford a new car or truck.

D.C. Is Nation’s Most Affordable Place to Live*
A study conducted by the Center for Housing Policy and the Center for Neighborhood Technology found that when factoring in certain elements like median income, D.C. is the most affordable city in the United States. Huh?
