D.C. Council Passes Bill To Help Medical Marijuana Dispensaries, Holds Off On Penalizing ‘Gifting’ Stores
The bill will allow patients with expired medical cards to continue purchasing marijuana through the end of January, and lets them buy more of it at a time.
All other legalized states authorize a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession before they escalate to felony charges, the group says.
Owners say this will allow them to better serve patients and compete against D.C.’s unlicensed market.

The mayor’s new marijuana policy still prevents some employees from using cannabis, and a longtime Department of Public Works employee says that amounts to discrimination.
