Federal Prosecutors Charge Michael A. Brown With Taking $55,000 Bribe From Undercover Agents
Charging documents filed today by Ron Machen, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, state that Michael A. Brown accepted $55,000 from undercover federal agents during and after his term as a member of the D.C. Council.
Former D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown will plead guilty to bribery charges after being caught in a sting operation carried out by undercover federal agents, he told his political supporters last night.
Two months after being defeated while running a campaign beset by cloudy finances, Brown is jumping in to the April 23 special election to fill out the remainder of an at-large term vacated by now-Chairman Phil Mendelson.

Amid Poor Poll Numbers on Business, Gray Signs $32.5 Million Tax Break for LivingSocial
A tax incentive package that will give LivingSocial $32.5 million between 2015 and 2020 in return for the daily deals company remaining headquartered in the District was signed into law today by Mayor Vince Gray.
Galvanized by recent anti-gay hate crimes, several hundred activists are planning to a rally and march tonight in support of the victims. About 600 people so far have signed up on the event’s Facebook page.
