More Hope Than A Hopeless Wizards/Bullets History

Terrible, just flat-out terrible. You know how the RZA pronounces the word “ridiculous” at the end of Kanye’s “So Appalled“? Yes, that. That applied to this Washington Wizards team. I’ve seen a lot of bad Wizards/Bullets, teams, but this year’s squad has the unique distinction of being one of the worst in franchise history, yet also filled with the most hope. Winning percentage-wise, the current Wiz Kids are tied as the sixth worst in franchise history, and tied for the fourth worst in my lifetime following the franchise. Let travel down memory lane, shall we?

The Weekly Feed: You’re at Happy Hour Already Edition

Matchbox Coming to the Hill As if we needed any more proof that Barracks Row is flexing its muscle in bringing business to the Hill. But, we have it anyway. Last week’s TomChat gave us the news that Matchbox, the over-popular Gallery Place pizza and mini-burger heaven, has signed a lease for a second location along Barracks Row—521 8th Street SE to be precise. According to Tom, the owner expects the new place to open…

Lakers Even The Score With Wizards

In retrospect, it was inevitable that Saturday’s Wizards / Lakers matchup would be a bit of a letdown when it was all said and done. The game had a media build up more reminiscent of the weekend’s other big game with the Post going as far to call it “Star Wars II” and the most “highly anticipated regular season game since Michael Jordan made his home debut for the Wizards in November 2001.” Chuck…

Wizards Hope to Break Losing Streak With Assist From Wade’s Dentist

Of all the rivalries in recent sports history, few have been as one-sided as the Wizards’ struggles against their Southeast Division antagonists, the Miami Heat. Indeed, it’s not clear you can even call it a rivalry, since in actual rivalries both sides sometimes win. D.C.’s hoopsters, by contrast, have been losing for a long time now. Sixteen straight games, including a four-game sweep in the 2006 Eastern Conference Semifinals, and sweeps of the regular season…

Wizards Update: Trading Deadline and Ticket Increases

Despite defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first game back after the All Star break (that’s seven of their last ten if you’re counting at home), the Wiz seem to be making a lot of noise off the court as well. Today is the NBA’s trading deadline, and even though the names Jared Jeffries and Etan Thomas have come up in a few rumors (one had Thomas going to Chicago for Mike Sweetney), the…

Wizards Kick Off Season Tonight

The Washington Wizards, fresh off of their first playoff trip in many moons, return to action tonight when the team travels to Toronto and tips off against the Raptors at 7:00 p.m. The Wiz had quite the offseason. They lost Larry Hughes, Juan Dixon and DCist fave Steve Blake in free agency and traded star-crossed former No. 1 pick Kwame Brown to the LA Lakers for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins. Free agents Antonio…

Wizards Head Home Down 2-0

General thinking in the NBA Playoffs is that a series really doesn’t start until a team wins on the road. Well, after losing their second game in a row in Chicago to the Bulls (and continuing their recent less than stellar playoff history), the Wizards better hope this series “doesn’t start” until they return to Chicago next week. Home games on Saturday and Monday might be the last hurrah for this team if they…
