Mister Tony Rides Again
After a 295-day hiatus, Tony Kornheiser is back live on the Washington airwaves. This morning, The Tony Kornheiser Show aired on Washington Post Radio (WTWP, 1500 AM and 107.7 FM). Kornheiser was lured away from Sports Talk 980 (his previous employer) and Dan Snyder’s Red Zebra Broadcasting by a generous 3-year contract from WTWP. His return is expected not only to boost WaPo Radio’s sagging ratings, but to bring some life to a moribund D.C….

Go Home Already: A Taste of Sex Change Edition
>> Homophonic talking point alert: Those of you who work in the garment trade will know that the act of overcasting the raw edge of fabric to prevent unraveling is called “serging.” But that’s not what everyone will be talking about tonight. >> Still, the Myrtle Beach Sun-News is saying that tonight’s address “may be most important of [Bush’s] presidency.” Dare you question the Myrtle Beach Sun-News? [Radosh] >> Tony Kornheiser will continue to serve…

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying– that’s two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline…can’t forget about Kevin Federline. That’s three great tastes in one. -Bostonist discussed two big state issues– what sort of math constitutes a marriage and what kind of alcohol can be sold in most grocery stores. And the politically minded Curt Schilling went on “Jeopardy!”. -Chicagoist celebrated the election news…

One And Done For Mister Tony?
Local media personality Tony Kornheiser has worn many hats in his lengthy career, but can best be described as a “media personality” or a “talking head”. His roots in Washington run deep, from his Washington Post column (which, to be fair, has thinned out considerably since its debut in 1979) to his quirky, irreverent radio show on local station WTEM. He is the co-host of the enormously popular ESPN television program, Pardon the Interruption,…

Redskins Open Season Against Vikes Tonight
Geezers need excitement. And for two of them, Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell and former Redskin/now-Viking QB Brad Johnson, ESPN’s Monday Night Football premiere will be providing it as these two NFC foes duke it out at FedEx Field tonight at 7:30 p.m. For Washington, who miffed and mussed and stunk their way through the preseason, all eyes will be on the offense. Widely deemed a depthless liability toward the end of last year, a heavy…

Are You Ready for Some Pasta?
The Washington Redskins kick off their regular season tonight against the Minnesota Vikings at FedEx Field. Last week, the Richmond Times-Dispatch took a look at what the Redskins organization — including players, coaches, and staff members — wolfed down during the squad’s three-week training camp in August: That group of 140 or so people, 88 of whom are players, chewed through 1,200 pounds of sliced deli meats, 1,500 pounds of chicken breasts, 1,200 pounds of…

New Capitol Hill Series Premieres Tonight
Hill staffers, it’s your turn to bathe in the harsh glare of the reality TV spotlight. The new six-part Capitol Hill documentary series The Hill (not to be confused with the Laguna Beach spin off The Hills) shadows the young staff of Congressman Robert Wexler (D-Fla) as they navigate the slippery halls of political power. While a documentary about the wonky inner workings of a Hill office sounds mundane at best to us, we are…

Old Guy Radio Gets Put Out To Pasture
We didn’t think it was possible, but it’s happening: D.C. radio has somehow found a way to become even more bland. That’s because at 11am on Friday, Tony Kornheiser’s daily radio show will be ceasing live broadcasts — at least for a little while. Kornheiser accepted a position in the Monday Night Football booth back in February, and his daily broadcast on Sportstalk 980 is a casualty of his new gig. Kornheiser will still tape…
The blossoming shrub that was the Washington Redskins’ successful 2005 season bore fruit yesterday, as it was announced that the team will play in the inaugural Monday Night Football game of the 2006 season. The synergy is practically PTI-tastic, as it will also be the first MNF game for area sports curmudgeon Tony Kornheiser. And because Monday Night Football moves from ABC to ESPN this year, nobody will be watching the game without buying something….

Kornheiser To Join Monday Night Football
Today the Post confirms the rumors that have been swirling over the past week: beginning next season newspaper columnist/television host/radio personality/D.C.-area curmudgeon Tony Kornheiser will be joining the Monday Night Football broadcast. The news comes as part of a slew of changes for the venerable telecast, as the program makes the move from ABC to ESPN. Kornheiser will be parnered with Joe Theismann and Mike Tirico. Neither John Madden nor Al Michaels — the program’s…
