After Multiple Fires, Skip Says It Will Return Scooters To D.C. With New Safety Measures
The company’s scooters have been off the streets in D.C., Arlington, and Alexandria since mid-June, when a bin full of lithium batteries caught fire in Skip’s downtown warehouse.
A D.C. Council bill debated yesterday would issue sweeping new rules on District residents who ride mopeds and motor scooters, requiring them to buy insurance, register with the Department of Motor Vehicles and—in some cases—obtain motorcycle licenses.
Ann Goodman, a 64-year-old Georgetown resident, keeps getting hauled off to jail for violating D.C.’s regulations on motorized scooters, which make owning a scooter in the District cumbersome and annoying.
