Metro Transit Police Didn’t Properly Investigate Or Document More Than 3,000 Complaints, Inspector General Says
It’s the latest in a long list of issues at MTPD in recent years.
The two-page report includes no names, dates, or narratives of the incidents reviewed by the independent panel meant to hold the transit police accountable.
Virginia and Maryland legislatures still have to approve the same measures, but community leaders say it’s a step in the right direction.
The incident in question was captured on cellphone video that was posted on Twitter and quickly prompted a backlash against the MTPD officers.
Officials say Officer Andra Vance subjected a person to unlawful seizure when he repeatedly struck them in the head and choked them with his baton.
The United States Attorney’s Office for D.C. has not filed charges against the man who was tased, though it could choose to do so at a later date, a spokesperson told DCist.
