The Smithsonian’s dinosaur and fossil hall has been closed for five years of renovations.

The institution plans to demolish the Samuel C. Johnson IMAX Theater to make room for an expanded cafeteria.

It will remain open until renovations on the new dinosaur and fossil hall are completed in 2019.

From 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, dinosaur expert Matthew Carrano will explore “the history and special effects of dinosaurs in popular film” in the Baird auditorium.
