The region’s libraries and other cultural institutions are hosting events and exhibits to explore the history and celebrate the culture of Indigenous peoples.
The memorial honors American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians, who have served in the armed forces at a higher rate per capita than any other ethnic group.
The memorial is scheduled to break ground at the National Museum of the American Indian next September and open in late 2020.

Man Falls To Death At Smithsonian Museum
The incident occurred at the National Museum of the American Indian, located at 4th Street and Independence Avenue SW, and temporarily shut down the museum. It is open today, according to the Smithsonian.

Indian Museum Director Spent $48,500 on Portrait
