It was a game of two deflections. Fortunate for Jermaine Jones and the United States; not so much for Jermaine Taylor and Jamaica.

MLS Cup 2007 Preview
Our beloved D.C. United may have crashed and burned (again) in the MLS playoffs this season, but life goes on. Also, the playoffs go on — right in our backyard, in fact. Many moons ago, Washington was picked to host the 2007 MLS Cup this Sunday at noon, at RFK. Time to put aside your grieving and check out the game. Tickets start at $30, maybe even less on Craigslist. When else are you going…

United Push Unbeaten Streak To Seven, Douse Fire 3-1
Two weeks ago, D.C. United traveled to Los Angeles to play a depleted Galaxy team and were lucky to come away with a disappointing 0-0 tie after Nate Jaqua missed two easy opportunities in front of the United goal. Determined not to fall into the trap of playing down to their competition again, United scored early in their 3-1 victory over the visiting Chicago Fire and never looked back. Fire goalie Matt Pickens bobbled…

Nowak to Leave D.C. United
Pending an official announcement (currently broadcast live at United’s web site), D.C. United coach Peter Nowak is leaving the team to become the U.S. men’s national team assistant coach. United is expected to name Tom Soehn as their new coach. The transition shouldn’t be too difficult for the team, as Soehn has been Nowak’s right hand man on the bench for the last three years. Nowak’s departure doesn’t come as a complete surprise. His name…

World Cup Update: Treading Prohibited Edition
As Monday’s opener with the Czech Republic draws nearer, U.S. Men’s National Team Coach Bruce Arena had this to say to reporters yesterday: “you can’t believe everything you read in the papers”. Although Arena was referring to reports that the Czechs would be without the services of their injury-ridden star players, the statement could well serve as a mantra for his squad throughout this month’s World Cup. The U.S. has the misfortune of being…

Adu To Chelski?
A funny thing happened during our lunch break. After perusing the Post and reading about how Freddy Adu is gearing up for the upcoming D.C. United season (and how his play with the club team will affect his status on the US National Team, which is preparing for this summer’s World Cup), we headed over to Deadspin where they linked to an article in The Times Online reporting that “agreements are imminent with the player…

United Lose Heartbreaker to Wizards, 1-0
Chris Klein was on the sidelines, being interviewed by former Womens’ National Team standout Brandi Chastain, when he was asked a question that surely irked those DC United fans who had tuned in to watch them play Klein’s Kansas City Wizards. Chastain wondered what Klein thought about Kansas City notching their first win against DC in Washington since the inaugural MLS season. On its face, this was a newsworthy question. The irksome part was, as…
