Wizards Not Ready To Rule Yet

.354 from the field .203 from three point land 91.7 points per game No matter how you look at the numbers, it’s clear the Washington Wizards struggled in the opening week of the NBA season, a fact reflected in their 0-3 record. The team looks disjointed on offense, taking bad shots and turning the ball over with impunity. And by giving up 105+ points per game – good for 26th in the league -…

Wizards Face Tough Stretch

What was once an entertaining season for the Washington Wizards has quickly gone down the proverbial drain so fast most people are afraid to ask “What’s next?” In the last 12 days, the team has lost Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas for the season, lost the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, lost the Southeast Division crown to the Miami Heat and also lost six in a row, with four of those…

Wizards Victimized by Lady Luck?

Written by DCist contributor Matthew Yglesias Wizards fans in the Verizon Center for last Sunday’s overtime loss to the Nets could smell victory as the Nets were forced to try and in-bound the ball facing a three-point deficit with only 2.7 seconds remaining on the regulation clock. Odor turned to palpable taste as guard Vince Carter launched a long shot on a short-arced trajectory that couldn’t possibly fall in. And, indeed, the shot slammed into…

Carter’s Late Three Leads Nets Over Wizards

Pop quiz, hotshot. Your team is up three in the waning seconds and your opponent is inbounding the ball. Do you just play defense and hope for a stop? Or do you foul before the other team can shoot a three, putting them on the line so they can’t tie the game in one possession? Last night at the MCI Center, Wizards coach Eddie Jordan chose the former and his team paid for it. The…

Morning Roundup: Virginia’s Growth Issues Edition

The battle over transportation in Virginia has been full of laughable moments, from Delegates noting how they don’t hear taxpayers clamoring for tax increases when they return home to news stories on the lack of concern about traffic in Virginia hamlets with three-digit populations. Of course, we laugh to keep from crying, or rather, we laugh to keep from tracking down these Prince William County Delegates and punching them in their smug faces. We know…

Morning Roundup: Immigration Edition

Immigration News: The Post reports that yesterday thousands gathered outside the Capitol building to protest legislation that could potentially authorize prosecution of social service workers, doctors, and others who assist illegal immigrants. A protest spokesperson estimated that 20,000 people showed up to the rally. The original House bill was sponsored by Representatives from Wisconsin and New York, but issues surrounding immigration are locally pertinent. The Post also looks today at a Brookings Institution study…

Wizards Snap Skid, Clinch Winning Season

The Washington Wizards ended their longest losing streak of the season last night beating the Milwauke Bucks 119-112 at the MCI Center. The Wiz were powered by Antawn Jamison’s 32 points and a season high 13 assists from Gilbert Arenas, who scored only 8 points on 2 of 9 shooting. Perhaps this was a wake up call for Arenas. Washington is just 1-4 in games when he scores over 40 points. Last night he focused…

Wizards Roll Over Nets

The new look New Jersey Nets traveled to the nation’s capitol last night and came away with their collective tail tucked between their legs as the home team dropped a team record 14 three pointers and rode the hot hand of Larry Hughes to a 112-88. The win, the Wiz’s third over the Nets this year, moves their record to 17-13, good enough for second in the Southeast Division. Despite Hughes gaudy numbers, 33 points…

Skyskating: Ballston Follows Lead of Paris, Brooklyn

It seemed that those photos of the elevated ice skating rink on the first level of the Eiffel Tower in Paris were all over the place a few days ago. (How cool would it be to ice skate on the roof terrace of the Hotel Washington, or some rooftop venue with a great view of the city’s monuments.) Well Ballston seems to be jumping on the sky skating trend as well, but we aren’t sure…
