Science-fiction writer Octavia Butler’s typewriter, the Lt. Nyota Uhura costume from “Star Trek,” and Sun Ra’s space harp are a few of the other objects that will be on display at the new exhibit.

Closed in 2004 for structural repairs, the AIB will reopen to the public this fall with a future-facing exhibit.
