If you read today’s early edition of the New York Post, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Caps actually lost yesterday’s game against the New York Rangers.

The Capitals staved off elimination and beat the Rangers in critical Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals to send the series back to New York for a decisive seventh game. Meanwhile, the Nationals lost.

The Capitals’ hopes of going up 3-2 against the Rangers crumbled in matter of seconds after a late penalty to Joel Ward. And Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is declaring war on the Phillies.

Last night, the Nationals won in the bottom of the ninth, but the Caps lost a heartbreaker in triple overtime.

Bryce Harper went hitless in his Nationals Park debut, but he made one hell of a throw home. Which didn’t go the Nats’ way, of course.

For all the criticism out there about Caps left wing Alexander Semin’s fighting style, we’d like to point out that New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal is equally bad at curl and drag fakes, nifty stickhandling moves and goal scoring.
