Live Nation Finally Confirms ‘Jiffy Lube Live’ Name

On Friday, DCist reported that the 25,000-seat Nissan Pavilion had been renamed Jiffy Lube Live. Other media outlets then followed our lead, but phone calls and emails to Live Nation for comment went universally un-returned. Then this morning, the company finally emailed out a press release officially announcing the name change. The release makes it seem like the new name may have have been posted to Live Nation’s web site before they had planned…

Nissan Pavilion is Now Jiffy Lube Live

Looks like Live Nation’s partnership with Nissan for the naming rights to its flagship concert venue in Bristow, Va. has come to an end, as the Nissan Pavilion name is no more. In its place, Jiffy Lube Live has risen. We’ve got a call in to Live Nation to find out more about when and how this went down, but in the meantime, we’re curious: does the thought of fast, no-appointment oil changes make you…

Click Click: Depeche Mode @ Nissan Pavilion

With over a quarter century having passed since its earliest hits, Depeche Mode is an act with cross-generational appeal. So when the houselights dimmed to signal the start of last night’s show at Nissan Pavilion, fortysomethings, college students, and 10-year olds alike rose to their feet. A band doesn’t achieve that kind of staying power on luck alone, it has to be doing something right. In this latest iteration of Depeche Mode’s Tour of the…

Click Click: No Doubt @ Nissan Pavilion

Last night I joined over 23,000 or so other people and made the trek out to Bristow to see No Doubt at Nissan Pavilion. Gwen Stefani and the Boys are back out on tour for the first time in five years, and judging from the crowds they’ve been bringing in, people really missed them. I can’t say I was ever a fan of the band, but I certainly was impressed with their show last night…

Obama Rally + Nissan Pavilion = Huge Mess

The Post makes the right call on today’s rally planned for Sen. Barack Obama at Nissan Pavilion is Bristow, Va. It’s going to be a traffic nightmare of epic proportions. You thought the Radiohead debacle was bad? Imagine a free 6 p.m. event open to all comers that will kickoff a historic national campaign for president by a candidate with huge support from young, enthusiastic, politically-minded, college-educated Democrats in a metro area that has one…

Radiohead @ Nissan Pavilion: Stormy Weather

The heated comments in today’s Morning Roundup mostly concern what appears to have been a really rough, weather-related time for concert goers at Sunday night’s Radiohead concert at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Va. Consumerist has since picked up the thread, highlighting some of the more incensed venting on the part of fans who were turned away from the venue thanks to road flooding and parking issues at the sold-out concert. Our critic, Mehan Jayasuriya, was…

Radiohead Asks the Impossible of D.C. Fans

Today, Radiohead kicks off its In Rainbows world tour in West Palm Beach, Florida, which means that D.C.-area fans are mere days away from getting their fix. The boys from Oxfordshire dispatched a press release today, announcing the launch of a new section on their website: The Most Gigantic Flying Mouth For Sometime. Die hards will undoubtedly note the allusion to the Hail to the Thief-era video series, but this particular announcement has far less…

Radiohead to Play Nissan Pavilion on May 11

As you may have already noticed (look left), Radiohead announced their first batch of U.S. tour dates today (for real this time!), ending months of speculation as to where and when the band will play on its 2008 tour. Looks like Oxford’s finest will bring their legendary live show to the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia on Sunday, May 11th. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10 am via Live Nation and range…

I.M.P. Still Interested in Silver Spring Venue

It looks like I.M.P., the Montgomery County-based company that runs the 9:30 Club and Merriweather Post Pavilion, hasn’t given up on opening a Silver Spring music hall. In September, we wrote that concert producer and venue owner Live Nation had signed a non-binding letter of intent to put a Fillmore music hall in the old J.C. Penney store at Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road in Silver Spring, across from the AFI Silver Theater. Both the…

Morning Roundup: Perpetual Parking Edition

Good morning, Washington. It looks like California’s still on fire, and likely to remain so. Most versions of the aforelinked AP story include the phrase “firefighters all but concede defeat,” and the Post is calling the resulting evacuation the largest in modern history. It all sounds pretty grim. Good luck, West Coast. Yet More Stadium Parking Controversy: The Post reports on the latest in a seemingly neverending series of deliberations over parking at the…
