Obama Family Volunteers at SOME
The Obama family showed up at So Others Might Eat’s soup kitchen on Monday, as part of their contribution to the MLK Day of Service. The Washington Times provides a little color:”We got a lot of struggle in this neighborhood,” a man shouted to Mr. Obama as he entered the facility, in a hardscrabble section of the city just north of Capitol Hill. President Obama Pardons the White House Turkey
President Barack Obama pardoned his first White House turkey, Courage, a little while ago. The White House has since released video of the ceremony (see below), during which Obama called Courage “a good looking bird.” The president was in a joking mood, noting that “there are days when I’m reminded why I ran for this office … and then there are days like this, when you pardon a turkey and send it Disneyland.” Obama also…

A Year of Obama & the District

Bush’s eight years in office. The first…

Simon Doonan Measuring the White House Drapes?
Every election year, the cliche that somebody should or should not begin measuring the White House drapes gets trotted out. But eight months in to their new life at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., it looks like the Obamas may finally have brought in some help for the job, in the form of fashion personality and Barney’s New York creative director/window dresser extraordinaire Simon Doonan. You may recognize Doonan from his appearances on America’s Next Top…
A White House spokesperson has issued a statement repudiating a report from Time magazine published online today that said President Obama had decided to make the Evergreen Chapel at Camp David his primary place of worship, in order to facilitate more privacy. “The President and First Family continue to look for a church home. They have enjoyed worshipping at Camp David and several other congregations over the months, and will choose a church at the…

Obamas Pick Camp David Church
Photo by brmurray The Obamas have finally ended the speculation about which D.C. church they would join – by picking none of them, Amy Sullivan reports in Time magazine. Instead, President Obama has reportedly decided to make the same choice as George W. Bush, and worship at Evergreen Chapel, the nondenominational church at Camp David. Given that the Obamas have appeared comfortable and even eager to be out in the city and part of…
