Go Home Already: Cup’s Half Full

Photo by christaki So Sommer Mathis is handing off the torch. For the next two weeks, I’ll be running the interim relay. Tell me, what’s the tip line password, again? >> Totally confused about how to get to the Wendy’s at New York and Florida Avenue NW now that the traffic pattern’s changed? Don’t sweat it — DDOT’s got your back. Mmm . . . spicy chicken sandwich. >> The top story in the local…

Record Store Day Show to Benefit Fort Reno

Poster by El Jefe Design The Vinyl District and Fort Reno are joining forces for a benefit show at St. Stephen’s Church a week from Saturday. Olivia Mancini, Paul Michel, Tone, and New Rock Church of Fire will play on April 17 for Record Store Day — a holiday that sees all record worshipers make a pilgrimage to their local houses of vinyl. Checking in with Olivia Mancini

She socialized with the Washington Social club, pulled together The Housemates for several years of DCist’s entertainment — including an Unbuckled performance and a recent interview — and now Olivia Mancini is realigning her musical efforts yet again. She and her new lineup, Olivia and the Terrible Two, are playing a show at the Black Cat this weekend with Tereu Tereu and Revival ($10, 9 p.m.). Here’s what she told us earlier this week about…

Out and About: Weekend Picks

However her 2005 release, Change It All, established her as especially talented when it comes to…

Out and About: Weekend Picks

FRIDAY: >> Though perhaps not quite as high profile anymore as some other D.C. bands from the mid-1980s, the cryptically-named 9353 always had, and still maintains, a dedicated group of fans. You may never have heard of them, but in addition to playing with some of the biggest local names like Scream, G.I. and Iron Cross, they also shared bills with Public Image Ltd, Sisters of Mercy and the Butthole Surfers back in the day,…

Nethers, Spank Rock and Girl Talk, Oh My!

As a rather fervent concert goer, I’ve been watching my October Outlook calendar with alternating excitement and dread as my concert calendar gets more and more crowded. This all came to a head yesterday as I started putting in the DAMfest schedule and noticed a whole bunch of scheduling conflicts in the making. Area indie rock fans are going to have some tough choices to make the last full week of October. Thursday, Oct….

Weekly Music Agenda

The music department took a bit of a siesta to watch fireworks, eat hot dogs, and catch Panacea — the excellent hip hop outfit that rose from the ashes of RPM. As always, if you’ve got any other suggestions for this week, let us know in the comments. WEDNESDAY >> Hardcore DIY outfits Badeatinghabits and Jinxed at Twelve infuse scremo in the former and melodic DC punk in the latter. Enjoy them both at the…
