The Saturday Morning Post

Good morning, Washington. Happy October, and happy new fiscal year. A noticeable drop in temperature this weekend reminds us it’s not too long before we’ll witness a noticeable shift in hues. Some may mourn the loss of warmer days but nearly all of us can look forward to approaching shades of autumn. What the new fiscal year will bring is far less certain.

Tasting Notes

This weekend, the DCist Food and Drink squad took in the 7th Annual Washington, D.C. International Wine & Food Festival at the Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park. Wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, and food giveaways spanned three ballrooms — a fitting size for a popular event that had, in previous years, occupied the main convention hall at the new Convention Center. FRIDAY: Anyone in need of a little funk infusion tonight would do well to check out Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at Black Cat. D.C.’s Largest Hotel May Be Sold

Is the golden age of Woodley Park’s anchor as a convention and meeting site coming to a close? The Post reports that the Marriott Wardman Park hotel may be sold for $200 million and a new developer, Chevy Chase’s JBG, hopes to convert part of its complex into condominums, similar to Monument Realty’s plans to convert the Watergate’s hotel into condos.
