12th Street NE in Brookland will close to vehicles in June, while the Georgia Avenue event will take place in October.

A hard seltzer festival, Marc Maron and Whitney Cummings doing stand-up, and Open Streets in Anacostia are among the things to do around D.C. this weekend.

The District says it plans to do several smaller Open Streets events in all eight wards this year.

It’s the second time in three years that D.C. will fully close three miles of Georgia Avenue, though the pandemic did lead to other experiments with streets and sidewalks.

Georgia Avenue’s Open Streets event will take place on Oct. 2, kicking off a series of similar events that will occur in each ward over the next year.

Some District leaders want the city to do more to expand sidewalks, shut down lanes, or close whole streets so that pedestrians and cyclists can move about the city at a safe social distance from each other.

The city is closing three miles of the busy thoroughfare to vehicles this Saturday for D.C.’s first-ever Open Streets event.
