Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the plot to kill bin Laden does not endorse torture. That it gives rise to such claims demonstrates at least one thing about this compelling work: It’s not a comfortable ride.
Fox News says it has unmasked the former commando behind a forthcoming book that promises first-hand details of the Navy SEAL mission last May that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.
Here are the first glimpses of Zero Dark Thirty, the director Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film about the Navy SEAL mission that killed Osama bin Laden.

Nationals Park: Now With Extra Vigilance?
After President Barack Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden late Sunday night, it became all hands on deck time for authorities. The Metropolitan Police Department, the Metro Transit Police, Mayor Vince Gray and the Department of Homeland Security all kicked into high gear, upping vigilance, putting more cops on the city’s trains and buses, and even reminding people to watch out for things like “threats from retaliating lone wolves” inside offices. So while experts admit that an attack there would be “unlikely,” it’s hardly a surprise that the District’s youngest sports facility might get in on the security uptick.

Today’s Newspapers: Popular!
Thinking about picking up a newspaper this afternoon? Good luck. Despite producing an extra 35,000 copies, your chances of finding an edition of the Washington Post — or any other newspaper, for that matter — are probably slim to none at this point. (Don’t worry, you’ll be able to scour eBay for laughably overpriced copies very, very soon.)
Shortly after news leaked that President Barack Obama was to announce the death of Osama bin Laden, several District residents — many of them students from nearby George Washington University, taking a break from studying for their finals — made their way to the White House to celebrate the news. The impromptu celebration turned into a massive gathering, drawing hundreds of others in a boisterous, sign-waving, lamppost-climbing, anthem-filled display of happiness. DCist staff photographer Jeff Martin was on the scene to capture the emotion on display.
This morning, Mayor Vince Gray released an official statement in reaction to last night’s news that U.S. forces had killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, thanking President Barack Obama, the armed forces and the intelligence community, and noting that “District residents are reminded to remain vigilant at all times.” Both MPD and Metro Transit Police are on heightened alert after the announcement. CIA Director Leon Panetta has said to that al-Qaida will “almost certainly” attempt to avenge bin Laden’s death.

How Will You Commemorate Sept. 11?
Just as a new videotape from Osama bin Laden was released over the weekend, tomorrow marks the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and the Pentagon, and as in year’s past, there will be events, speeches and vigils across the country to remember the dead. But with more time now between us and that tragic day, it does seem as though the way we want to honor the anniversary…
