Alberto’s Fire Doesn’t Look Good
We’ve got more on that Dupont Circle fire we mentioned briefly in the Morning Roundup. As some commenters feared, the building in question does contain everyone’s favorite Dupont neighborhood pizza spot, Alberto’s, and the fire looks to have done some vaguely serious damage. Apologies for the poor photo quality, but a camera-phone shot was the best we could do so far. What you’re looking at is 2010 P Street NW, home to Alberto’s, a…

Sexual Assault, Robbery in Northeast
Brookland neighborhood blog stop, blog and roll points to a pretty horrifying crime story we missed: A woman was sexually assaulted and beaten inside her basement apartment on the 900 block of Perry Place NE Friday night, and then subsequently driven by the suspect to several ATMs around the neighborhood and forced to withdraw money. The assault occurred as the woman was entering her apartment — she was grabbed from behind, forced inside, beaten and…

Out and About: Weekend Picks
FRIDAY: >> The fun, free funk and soul dance party, Moneytown at Rock and Roll Hotel, is featuring a special guest DJ named Harry Hotter, which is reason enough in itself to check to it out just to see if he’ll be dressing the part. DJ Nitekrawler will also be there as usual. 9:30 p.m. to close. And don’t forget to check out our full preview of 1990s, who play downstairs with Red Romance and…

The Weekly Feed: Free ‘Nuts Edition
Free Doughnuts All Around As you may have read elsewhere, today is the day for free doughnuts at the new P Street NW location of regional doughnut chain, The Fractured Prune. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday, December 1), stop by 2153 P Street NW for a free doughnut and coffee. Despite my love for all things fried, I can’t really get behind a doughnut. I like fry bread, fried pies, and fried…

Make Room For Another Wisey’s
Georgetown students don’t waste their valuable time with the five syllables of Wise-mil-ler’s De-li. To them it’s just “Wisey’s,” the prime spot for cold drinks, take-out sandwiches and a few household items next to 1789. But two weeks ago, along came another Wisey’s. This time, not seconds from the campus front gates, but gasp—a few minutes away. Not only is the new one a bit farther from campus, it’s also farther away from the original…

A March for Borf
We had mentioned Borf’s “video communique release and street party” a couple of times before, and even though it’s been a few days, we thought we’d share DCist’s experience at the event. After waiting for about an hour at 11th and O NW on Saturday night, it seemed like the 100 people in attendance (plus a fair number of police officers) had been punk’d. However, there eventually was a brief video about depression, gentrification, and…

Alberto’s Re-Opens In Dupont Circle
After the Dupont Circle pizzeria Alberto’s closed due to a fire in March, the store put up a banner promising to return after “renovations.” Following several weeks of apparent inaction, our hopes that we might once again enjoy a delicious jumbo slice at 3 a.m. without venturing to Adams Morgan began to fade. But, we heard this week the pizzeria was back, and we knew we had to see it in person. It may have…

A Growing Borf Backlash
Somebody told this DCist that they suspect that the anti-Baltimore graffiti on Columbia Road attributed to Borf could theoretically have been done by a Borf imposter. Well the City Paper, in its City Desk briefing, notes that one Andrew Westbury was apprehended on P Street NW for “allegedly penning an insult to Borf” reading: “Borf is a” … And that’s as far that Mr. Westbury, who the Metropolitan Police describe as a “yuppie-type” sans criminal…
