Maryland General Assembly Passes Paid Leave Bill
The measure goes to the desk of Governor Larry Hogan. While his office hasn’t made a statement on the bill, advocates are confident they have a veto-proof majority.
The employees who run D.C.’s paid leave program and the rest of the city’s services are not eligible for it.
A new law taking effect in July will give private-sector workers in D.C. up to eight weeks of paid family leave a year.
D.C.’s family leave program goes into effect July 2020, and it’ll give new parents up to 8 weeks of paid leave. For those who are self-employed, that could mean a big difference.
