No Room To Stretch For Union Station Development
Ah, the Height Act — that singular piece of regulation, whose repeal, many would have you believe, would go a long way toward solving any number of problems that Washington currently faces: from traffic to housing, retail to population growth. Such opponents of the Act will certainly have cringed this morning upon reading this report in today’s Washington Post, explaining how a potential development over the rails behind Union Station which would scrape — or violate, depending on your perspective — the limit is yet again being slapped with accusations that it will “scar” the area. Oh, the horror, the horror!

First D.C. Walmart Rendering Surfaces
Brace yourself: the first Walmart rendering is out, and it actually looks…good. In addition to reporting on the retail behemoth’s concession “to consider an array of layouts, designs and parking arrangements,” the Post’s Jonathan O’Connell did the internets a favor yesterday and shared three high-quality renderings of the proposed Walmart which would be constructed at 801 New Jersey Avenue NW.

WMATA: Now With More Blog
WMATA, at least part of it, has officially joined the blogosphere! We’ll fully admit to not noticing that Metro’s Office of Long Range Planning had started a blog — cleverly titled PlanItMetro — until this morning, but I’ll be the first to admit that its got some interesting stuff to share.
