Overnight, a large fire broke out at at vacant two-story building at 3001 Georgia Avenue NW. Several tipsters told DCist that the blaze, which encompassed both floors of the building around 1:20 a.m., created a heavy smoke cover over the residential Pleasant Plains neighborhood.

The future of the site on which Bruce Monroe Elementary School once stood has been a contentious matter for some time. And with each progressive step in the process, things have gotten messier and messier.
