Ex-NYC Deputy Mayor Resigned After D.C. Arrest

Our sister site Gothamist brings us the news that even New York City’s politicians are having trouble behaving themselves in the District. Former Deputy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith — originally believed to have resigned his position after a poor performance handling the response to a massive snowstorm — actually stepped down because of a dispute where his wife threatened to “put a bullet through” him and he shoved her inside the couple’s Georgetown townhouse.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, in her time as D.C. Delegate, has always been one of the National Mall’s most strident supporters. So it’s hardly surprising that Norton wants to use the recent dancing demonstrations at the Jefferson Memorial as a leaping point to promote public use of the grounds.

I mean, Kwame Brown at least gave us a little bit of The Lawnmower — Orange flails his arms around and kind of does a spin, but that’s about it. Watson Clobbers Congressmen, World Remains Doomed

Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, the most successful people to ever be dressed down by Alex Trebek on syndicated television, sure got their butts whupped by Watson, the IBM creation that has most of America withering in fear that the reign of Skynet is looming. Last night, Representatives Rush Holt (D-NJ), Jared Polis (D-CO), Jim Himes (D-CT), Nan Hayworth (R-NY), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) all had their chance to take on the supercomputer in a few rounds of the popular game show — and Holt actually came out on top. Once. In a series of a few rounds. None of the other legislators even came close.
