Providence has been planning to shutter its acute-care services since last summer.

The court has yet to rule on the merits of the actual lawsuit.

The lawsuit, which has not yet been filed, will focus on the hospital’s plans to scale back acute-care services.

“If they become ill, where is my mother going, where is someone else’s mother going?”

Earlier this year, Providence Hospital announced it would shut down its acute-care services by December 14.

Providence has said that it will transition out of “all services” except for its nursing center and “primary-care related services” on Dec. 14, 2018.

Residents say hospital services are already unequally distributed, and this closure will make it worse.
