D.C. Legislators Propose Dropping Traffic Camera Fines to $50, Directing Half of Revenue to Safety Programs
Under a bill set to be introduced in the D.C. Council today, fines for most traffic camera violations would drop to $50 and half of all the revenue from the cameras would have to go to traffic enforcement and road safety.
A D.C. Council task force on the city’s growing network of traffic cameras debated a proposal yesterday that would see most speeding fines drop to $40.
With all the complaints about speed cameras in D.C., just wait until Montgomery County starts installing its new cameras.
According to WTOP’s Adam Tuss, WMATA has instituted a “safety stand down” — in which the transit agency will require “all operating personnel participate in a safety briefing” — after two more train operators ran red light signals.
