It’s been one year since Kabul fell to the Taliban, forcing hundreds of thousands of Afghans to flee the country. Here are five stories of refugees who resettled in the D.C. area, one year on.

A number of local agencies and businesses are collecting funds, supplies, and welcoming volunteers to help Afghan refugees resettle.

A traveling exhibit is stopping in D.C. this evening.

At least one faith leader from each state is backing it under the umbrella of non-profit World Relief.

Lawmakers and lawyers are calling it a “constitutional crisis.”

Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faith leaders are participating in the event, including a vigil that started at 4 p.m. and a rally scheduled for 5 p.m.

A march in protest of the gun lobby is planned for Saturday and a rally to show support for refugees is planned for Sunday.

The second annual festival features visual arts, film screenings, and performances.

Virginia keeps the welcome mat out, and D.C. doesn’t settle any refugees.
