City Paper Strikes Back, Files Anti-SLAPP Affidavit
Yesterday, the Washington City Paper filed an affidavit requesting the dismissal of Dan Snyder’s lawsuit against the newspaper and reporter Dave McKenna under a new D.C. law which prohibits “strategic lawsuits against public participation,” or SLAPP.
Dan Snyder has finally broken his silence. The Washington Redskins owner spoke up this afternoon about precisely why he’s decided to send his legal hounds after the Washington City Paper over Dave McKenna’s brilliant “The Cranky Redskins Fan’s Guide to Dan Snyder.” And you’ll never be able to guess why: it’s because he “loves the media,” duh!
Look, Washington Examiner, we know you’re bummed out about not actually having crime-fighting superpowers. We would be too! But that’s no reason to start wildly promoting the idea that pedestrian accidents are on the rise exclusively because Michelle Obama is encouraging people to fight obesity by walking.

The Washington Independent To Cease Publication
The Washington Independent — which, over the last three years, has been a must-read for those of us who appreciate our online news presented by incredibly intelligent reporters who possess a keen understanding of policy and why things matter — announced today that it would be closing up shop. In a statement posted on the Independent’s website this afternoon, editor Aaron Wiener explained that, despite all its sparkling journalism, TWI was simply swallowed by the financial realities of the day.
