Bill Cosby Disputes the Post’s Coverage of His Views

Tuesday and today Howard University is hosting the Children’s Defense Fund National Summit, which includes panel discussions on the Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Initiative, a project that seeks to end the cycle of poor minority children ending up destined to be shuffled in and out of the country’s prison system. Yesterday Bill Cosby appeared on a panel titled “The Need for Personal and Community Responsibility” in conjunction with the summit, along with NPR’s Juan…

Counting Down Cutler’s 15 Minutes in 5… 4… 3…

Just a scant two weeks before the publication of Jessica Cutler’s “The Washingtonienne,” The Smoking Gun points us to the news that former Cutler paramour Robert Steinbuch (at left) is suing her for “invasion of privacy” and “severe emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, and anguish”. The Smoking Gun has image files of the 21-page document, which does not ask for a specific amount in monetary damages. The “news” has also hit Roll Call’s subscriber-only Heard on…

Profiles in Superfluousness: Karen Feld

Washington, D.C., may not be a locale frequently visited by the flaws and foibles of A-List celebrities, but the nexus of power and politics nevertheless yields a generous supply of dish. Washingtonians know where to get their gossip, and they have a decent array of choice: such as kitten-with-a-whip Wonkette, the above-the-fray Reliable Source Richard Leiby, the unbuttoned back pages of The Hill and Roll Call’s “Heard on the Hill,” the window into vicarious living…

Chevy Chase Unleashes the Fury

In today’s Reliable Source, Richard Leiby reports that comedian Chevy Chase unleashed a “potty-mouthed … rant against President Bush” at liberal advocacy organization People For the American Way’s annual “Spirit of Liberty” awards at the Kennedy Center Tuesday. (Disclaimer: this DCist works for PFAW) Thus far conservative news outlets Newsmax and online gossip Matt Drudge have picked up the story, although both rely on the Post’s coverage. He is seen here before the show in…

Jenna’s Headed to Columbia Heights?

As Richard Leiby reported this morning in the Reliable Source, first twin Jenna Bush has applied for a teaching position at the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School (wow, that’s a mouthful) on 16th Street on the border of Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant. The school and the White House are both mum on Jenna’s plans but Leiby learned that Jenna plans to stay in Washington, leasing a house in Georgetown. But getting…

Cage’s ‘National Treasure’ Not Found in D.C.

DCist walked into National Treasure last weekend with high hopes. Although the Post may have maligned it as a “‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ for people who slept through American history class,” as a guilty fan of quasi-historical action flicks, we were expecting to be entertained. On that count the film didn’t disappoint — for the most part, the whizzes whizzed, the bangs banged, and the nonstop action was sprinkled with enough plot twists and…

Cox’s NYT Fame Stokes Flames of Growing Blog Buzz

During DCist’s server maintenance, we weren’t able to post anything about the talk of the blogosphere: Sunday’s New York Times Magazine cover story with Washington’s very own Ana Marie Cox of Wonkette. (For the record, Cox is “bi-metro,” splitting her time between D.C. and New York.) As Richard Leiby points out in today’s Reliable Source, Cox had a birthday party Sunday evening and Cox was nice enough to extend an invitation to DCist. Even Juleanna…

Our Coolness

In an unguarded moment, Washington Post “Reliable Souce” columnist Richard Leiby told a Gawker correspondant that “Boston is so bad it’s not even as cool as D.C., which is already New York’s retarded step-brother. And when you’re not even as cool as DC, well… you got some serious problems.” (via Unsettled)…
