Rolling Thunder Organizers Aren’t Sure Why Trump Promised The Event Would Return To D.C.
Trump tweeted that Rolling Thunder will be back in D.C. next year. That was news to the ride’s organizers.
Now in its 26th year, the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally rumbled through Arlington and D.C. yesterday in an annual tribute to fallen U.S. troops and the soldiers who went missing in action and never returned home.

In case you didn’t realize, it’s Rolling Thunder weekend. And considering that the Stars, Stripes, and Spokes Festival is also going down at RFK Stadium over the next few days, it’s really turning into a makeshift Motorcycle Appreciation weekend around these parts.

On the subject of long-haulin’ it, Charlie Daniels has perhaps the definitive word. In the liner notes to his legendary 1974 album Fire on the Mountain, Daniels wrote, “Hungover. Red eyed. Dog tired. Satisfied. It’s a long road with a little wheel and it takes a lot of turns to get there. Thank you, damn it.” Has anyone penned a line more appropriate for Rolling Thunder? Or for Memorial Day in general? I think not….
