After a contentious D.C. Council hearing about Uber on Monday, Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) said rather than regulate the on-demand sedan service, he’d rather see a relaxing of regulations on the District’s taxi industry.

A maddeningly long D.C. Council session that focused almost exclusively on the livery sedan service Uber was a theater of the absurd, featuring references to the Soviet Union and Robert F. Kennedy, along with explanations of the nature capitalism.

Ten months after it first entered the D.C. market, Uber’s battle royale with city regulators is far from over. With the publication of a new set of proposed regulations over sedan-based livery services, the fight is about to resume.
