Bring It On, Senate!

This morning the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs approved legislation granting the District a voting seat in the House of Representatives, sending the measure to the full Senate for cosideration. The vote was 9-1, with Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) casting the lone dissenting vote (seriously, can’t Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) have a talk with this guy?). Senator Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Senator George Voinovich (R-Ohio), all considered key…

The hearing — which we’ll try to live-blog, obvs — should be interesting. Among the Republicans on the committee are a…

A city official noted in the article that over the last three years gang activity among girls has risen, and that there are now some 270 girl gangs operating throughout the District. While male gangs are commonly involved in drugs and crime, girls gangs apparently clash over “anything from fashion styles to…

Morning Roundup: Cornel’s Jumbo Slice Edition

Well, DCist has gone and done it now. In an arbitrary post last week discussing the American Political Science Association’s annual meeting in the District, former DCist food connoisseur Kanishka offered $100 to any reader who could catch Cornel West scarfing down a jumbo slice. Safe bet, right? I mean, who would have thought that Cornel West would actually scarf down, of all things, a jumbo slice? Well, one reader managed just that. Above, Cathy…
