Metro Ads: An Equal Opportunity Offender
Ladies love shoes, men love sports, says Metro.
In an ad for its Metro Forward campaign, located at the Metro Center station, one woman informs another about the reliability of buses. The other woman responds, “Can we just talk about shoes?”
The group, which is calling itself Sexism Matters, created a Change.org petition, asking the gym to remove the billboard from above the Taylor Gourmet outpost on Bethesda Row.
Facebook ads are easy to overlook most of the time. But today, one caught my eye — an advertisement for Chick Beer, made exclusively for women.
I like Clinton Portis, really. The Redskins running back is one of the more charismatic players in the league when he’s on and generally, he seems like a good guy. But he’s gotten himself into a little hot water today, after he made some comments about the Ines Sainz situation.
A cauldron of political activity and protest, a venue for gender politics discourse and a theater for civil disobedience. Obviously, I could only be talking about our baseball stadium.

You Stay Classy, Rob Dibble
Nationals color commentator Rob Dibble has often been attacked by fans of the team for his abrasive style, his subpar analysis and his obvious homerism. But those who would rather have hot pokers jammed into their ears than listen to Dibble call a baseball game have some extra ammunition after Wednesday night’s broadcast, in which Dibble was amazed that two women were — wait for it — sitting in some plum seats behind home plate at a Nats game! Just the two of them with nary a man nearby! And they were even talking!
Marion Barry may be sick in the hospital today, but he and fellow D.C. Council member Harry “Tommy” Thomas, Jr. (D-Ward 5) were taken to task today by the Washington Post’s editorial board for making racist and sexist comments Friday night at a parks and recreation committee hearing on the confirmation of acting Department of Parks and Recreation director Ximena Hartsock.
