A National Park Service plan to shoot some 157 deer in Rock Creek Park has been put on holding pending the resolution of a lawsuit filed by five residents hoping to stop the plan altogether.

The National Park Service will start killing wildlife-devouring deer in Rock Creek Park this winter, and plans on donating the meat to local area food banks.

The deer that roam Rock Creek Park may make us all stop and marvel at the wonders of nature as we walk or ride along Beach Drive, but they’re a nuisance to the National Park Service — and it’s ready to do something about it.
