Morning Roundup: Not Actually August Edition
Good morning, Washington. It’s almost October, but in many ways it still seems like summer. For one thing, it’ll be ninety degrees today. For another, there’s news of Michael Vick’s worsening legal situation. Yesterday Virginia indicted him and three others on dogfighting charges. Of course, we all knew that was coming sooner or later — less expected was word that a Canadian bank is suing Vick for defaulting on a $2.3 million loan. Potential…

New Crime Camera Outside the U Street Metro
Just when Jim Graham does something to make us mad, he comes back and does something good. As part of a pilot program sponsored by the Ward 1 council member, there is now a crime camera outside the 13th and U entrance of the U Street Metro, which the station managers will monitor. Environmental Network, a coalition…

It’s official — winter is over. Today is the Vernal Equinox, the day that daytime and nighttime are of equal length. But Mother Nature isn’t one to make things easy on us. Our friends at Capital Weather are reporting that tomorrow might be particularly winter-like — the temperature won’t break 40, and we may even get some snow. So, enjoy today’s mild weather as long as you can. Man Killed at Shaw Metro Station:…

Development Sparks Controversy in Shaw
New development in the historic Shaw neighborhood has put two restaurateurs’ liquor licenses on uncertain footing and sparked a conflict about the future of the neighborhood. The restaurants are located on Ninth Street between the new Convention Center and Rhode Island Avenue, just blocks from both the Mt. Vernon Square and Shaw Metro stations and steps from where this DCist lives. They also both happen to be located a stone’s throw from Shiloh Baptist Church,…
