File Under Duh: Six Flags Is Bankrupt
Concluding a more than four-year rollercoaster without inclines which supplied City Paper sports writer Dave McKenna with endless amounts of material, the Daniel Snyder-controlled Six Flags chain of amusement parks is officially bankrupt. Filing yesterday, the company finally admitted that their $2.4 billion debt mountain was unclimbable, even after selling off properties to gain capital and attempting to restructure agreements with creditors. Six Flags’ stock offering was recently kicked off the New York Stock Exchange…

Morning Roundup: Pseudo-Holiday Edition
Good morning, Washington. It’s Columbus Day, the least observed of all the federal holidays — or is that Veterans’ Day? Unless you work directly for the government or your job is absolutely dependent on it being open for business, odds are about even you’re sitting at your desk at the usual time this morning, as a trade-off for getting to take the Friday after Thanksgiving off. It’s also, of course, a controversial day, and is…

Mr. Cruise Comes to Washington
The lovely ladies over at The Reliable Source have the scoop that Tom Cruise, along with fiancee Katie Holmes and kids Isabella, Connor and indeed, baby Suri, are currently in Washington at the invitation of Redskins owner and new financial partner Dan Snyder. The entire Cruise fam is reportedly staying at The Danny’s Potomac manse, out of which they ventured last night for a private, after-hours visit to Six Flags America, where we suppose they…

Cruise and Snyder Make a Deal
Tom “Who needs Paramount Pictures?” Cruise just struck a deal that brings him a little bit closer to our neck of the woods, figuratively speaking: CNN reports the actor has signed a two-year development deal for his production company Cruise/Wagner Productions, with the investment partnership First and Goal, headed by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. We think the name is catchy, Dan. Looks like the the firm will “provide development and overhead financing” for Cruise’s Cruise/Wagner…

Morning Roundup: Buckling Back Up Edition
Mornin’, Washington. We hope you had as much fun as we did at Unbuckled last night. Thanks to the Hard Tomorrows, Olivia Mancini and the Housemates, and our own DJ Leafblower for providing a night of great music. Most of all, thanks to all of you for coming out. We had a blast. Hospital Proposal Hits Roadblock: The Post reports that Mayor Williams’ plans for building a hospital in partnership with Howard University has run…
It’s so nice to get to talk about someone else’s TO problem for a change. If you’ve only recently been rescued from a near-fatal spelunking accident, here’s the story: two years ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were weary of playing bridesmaid to the NFC Champion. To get over that hump, they solicited the services of a preening, narcissistic headline generator named Terrell Owens. With Owens on board, the Eagles went to a Superbowl, and ever…

The Passion of the Gibbs: Week 12 Preview
Just what does a Redskins fan, slogging through another season in which the playoffs are not in the cards, have to be thankful for? Well, just about every Redskins fan I talked to on Thanksgiving day said the same thing: that Coach Gibbs will not forsake us. When next season comes and the win-loss record is back to 0 and 0, he will be there on the sidelines, guiding us to the promised land. Now…
